Worth Leaving For This Weekend: November 6–8 in Southwest Florida

by Stephanie Barrett

YOUR COUCH CAN WAIT. SOUTHWEST FLORIDA HAS PLANS.

Halloween is over, the holiday chaos hasn't fully arrived yet, and we've got a weekend worth getting out for.

From downtown Fort Myers art and live music to a free native plant giveaway in Estero, there are some genuinely good reasons to leave the house this weekend.

And the best part? Most of my picks won't require you to spend much money.

Here's what's worth leaving for November 6–8, 2026.

1. Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk

Friday, November 6 | 5–9 PM | FREE

Downtown Fort Myers is turning into an outdoor art destination Friday evening.

The monthly Art Walk brings local and regional artists onto the historic streets of the River District, with original artwork, vendors, and a chance to explore downtown after dark.

This month's event also includes the Children's Entrepreneur Market, where young business owners sell their creations.

Why it's worth leaving for: Art, downtown atmosphere, and supporting local talent without paying admission.

Where: First Street and Hendry Street, Fort Myers.

2. November Gallery Opening at Alliance for the Arts

Friday, November 6 | 5–7 PM | FREE

If you prefer your art with a little more personality, this one deserves attention.

Alliance for the Arts is opening three November exhibitions, including That's Absurd, which explores unconventional and surreal artwork.

The reception is free and open to the public, with an opportunity to meet participating artists and enjoy complimentary appetizers.

Why it's worth leaving for: Something creative, a little unexpected, and different from your usual Friday evening.

Where: 10091 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers.

3. Native Plant Giveaway & Sale in Estero

Saturday, November 7 | 10 AM–1 PM | FREE

Yes, free plants.

And not just random plants that may or may not survive your Florida backyard.

The Florida Wildflower Foundation, Florida Native Plant Society chapters, and Village of Estero are hosting a native plant giveaway and sale at Estero RiverPark.

Learn about easy-to-grow Florida wildflowers, browse plants for sale, and potentially take home a free native plant while supplies last.

There's also a 10:30 AM presentation and walk focused on native wildflowers.

Preregistered visitors can receive early access beginning at 9:30 AM, subject to the organizer's registration rules.

Why it's worth leaving for: A useful local event, Florida gardening advice, and a chance to add something new to your yard without spending a fortune.

Where: 20911 Highlands Avenue, Estero.

4. PROSToberfest at Fort Myers Brewing Company

Saturday, November 7 | Noon–10 PM | Free admission reported; purchases extra

Apparently Oktoberfest wasn't finished with Southwest Florida.

Fort Myers Brewing Company is bringing back its postponed celebration with food trucks, live music, and dueling pianos.

The event schedule includes afternoon musical performances and dueling pianos beginning at 6 PM.

Food and drinks are available for purchase.

Why it's worth leaving for: A relaxed Saturday with live entertainment and a little Oktoberfest energy, even though the calendar already says November.

Where: 12811 Commerce Lakes Drive, Fort Myers.

5. FGCU Basketball Home Openers

Friday, November 6, 7 PM and Saturday, November 7, 2 PM | Tickets start at $13

If you'd rather cheer than browse, FGCU has two home-opening basketball games this weekend.

The men's team faces New College of Florida on Friday evening.

The women's team takes on Arkansas State Saturday afternoon.

Both games are scheduled at Alico Arena, and FGCU has advertised single-game tickets starting at $13 for the season. Actual ticket prices and availability depend on the game and seating.

Why it's worth leaving for: Local college sports, a lively arena atmosphere, and a budget-friendly entertainment option.

Where: Alico Arena, FGCU campus.

My Weekend Picks

If I were narrowing this down, I'd do Friday evening at the Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk, then head to Estero RiverPark Saturday morning for the plant giveaway.

For a more social Saturday, PROSToberfest is worth considering.

And if you've been looking for an excuse to catch an FGCU game, opening weekend is a good one.

You don't need a $200 night out to enjoy Southwest Florida.

Sometimes all it takes is knowing what's happening.
