Worth Leaving For: Things to Do Around Estero This Weekend | Sept. 11–13
It’s Thursday, which means it’s time to answer the important question:
Are we actually leaving the house this weekend?
This week? Yeah. There are a few things worth putting on real pants for. 😂
I went through what’s happening around Estero, Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach and pulled the events I’d actually consider going to — with FREE and inexpensive options getting first dibs.
And yes: these event details were verified before this was published.

🏎️ 1. ROAR Offshore Takes Over Fort Myers Beach
📍 Fort Myers Beach
📅 Friday, Sept. 11–Sunday, Sept. 13
If you want something this weekend that you definitely cannot do in Ohio, here you go. 😂
ROAR Offshore brings APBA Super Stock powerboat racing to Fort Myers Beach, with boats capable of running 80–100+ mph.
Friday includes practice and qualifying. Saturday brings racing, Speed Cat runs and a boat and Porsche car show in Times Square from 6–9 PM. The championship race is scheduled for 1 PM Sunday.
The official event headquarters are at Margaritaville Beach Resort. On-water activities are weather- and conditions-dependent.
Why It’s Worth Leaving For: This isn't another farmers market or cover band. Offshore racing from the beach is one of those very Florida ways to spend a weekend.
Stephanie’s Local Tip: Don't treat this like a normal quick beach run. Give yourself extra time for Fort Myers Beach traffic and parking, and check the official ROAR schedule before leaving because weather and water conditions can affect racing.
🎬 2. Palm City Cinema Presents Hamilton
📍 Riverside Community Center, 3061 E. Riverside Drive, Fort Myers

Need an option that involves air conditioning rather than sweating through your shirt?
The City of Fort Myers is showing Hamilton Friday night as part of its Palm City Cinema series. The movie starts at 6 PM, and you can bring a blanket, snacks and drinks. Just leave the alcohol and glass containers at home.
Why It’s Worth Leaving For: It's free, indoors and requires approximately zero complicated planning. Sometimes that wins.
Stephanie’s Local Tip: With thunderstorms in this weekend's forecast, I'd keep this one in your back pocket as the Friday-night weather-proof option.
🥕 3. Fort Myers Farmers Market
📍 Downtown Fort Myers — First Street/Broadway area
📅 Saturday, Sept. 12 | 9 AM–1 PM
💰 FREE admission
Saturday morning is probably your best shot at getting out before peak September heat and afternoon storms.
The City of Fort Myers confirms the downtown market is running Saturday from 9 AM–1 PM with local produce, seafood, baked goods, cheeses, meats, plants, prepared food, crafts and more.
Even better: on-street parking is free, with paid garage parking also available nearby.
Why It’s Worth Leaving For: Coffee, something baked that you absolutely did not need, a wander around downtown, and home before the afternoon weather gets dramatic.
Stephanie’s Local Tip: Go early. September in Southwest Florida does not reward the person who says, “We'll head out around noon.”
🎶 4. Sundown Concert Series at Fort Myers Brewing
📍 Fort Myers Brewing, 12811 Commerce Lakes Dr. #28, Fort Myers
📅 Saturday, Sept. 12 | NostalJah at 6 PM

This is probably my favorite easy Saturday-night option.
The Sundown Concert Series kicks off with NostalJah at 6 PM, plus food trucks and that whole golden-hour-beer-live-music situation Florida does particularly well.
It's free to attend, and the organizers specifically say to bring a chair. Four-legged buddies are welcome too. There is an optional $30 VIP wristband, but you absolutely do not need it to attend.
Why It’s Worth Leaving For: Free live music + food trucks + Saturday night without having to turn it into a $200 night out.
Stephanie’s Local Tip: Bring the chair. Future You does not want to stand around holding a beer while staring at all the people who remembered theirs.
🎸 5. Bayside Concert Series on Fort Myers Beach
📍 Bayside Park, Fort Myers Beach
📅 Sunday, Sept. 13 | 4–7 PM
💰 FREE
If Sunday's race doesn't completely wear you out, you can keep the beach day going with free live music at Bayside Park.
The current event listing has Dirty Work performing from 4–7 PM. Lawn chairs are encouraged, well-behaved pets on leashes of six feet or shorter are allowed, and outside food and drinks are not. The concert is weather permitting.
Why It’s Worth Leaving For: This could turn Sunday into a full Fort Myers Beach day — ROAR in the afternoon, food nearby and live music afterward.
Stephanie’s Local Tip: If you're already going to ROAR Sunday, don't leave the island and then come back. That's just volunteering for more bridge traffic.
🌧️ Before You Go: About That Weather...
Welcome to September in Southwest Florida, where we make plans and backup plans.
The National Weather Service forecast for Fort Myers currently calls for highs around 92°F Friday through Sunday, with thunderstorms possible throughout the weekend and the better chance for widespread storms developing after about 2 PM Saturday and Sunday.
That doesn't automatically mean cancel your plans. It means check the radar before leaving, hydrate, have an indoor backup and recheck outdoor event pages before driving over.
Especially ROAR — its organizers specifically note that on-water activities depend on weather, water conditions and final approvals.

ROAR Offshore.
No contest this week.
You can go to dinner or hear live music practically any weekend. Watching offshore racing boats rip across the Gulf off Fort Myers Beach?
